Nutsco, Inc. of Camden, NJ announces a nation wide recall of six of it peanut products as a result of a potential salmonella contamination being identified at one of Nutsco’s peanut suppliers. Nutsco is recalling the following products; 8oz cans of FAZENDA PEANUTS (UPC 899030000445 ), FAZENDA MIXED NUTS (UPC 899030000452 ), ALLNUTS PEANUTS (UPC 899030000063 ) ALLNUTS MIXED NUTS (UPC 899030000087 ), with “Best By” dates between 1/1/2008 to 1/1/2010. Also being recalled are 6oz bags of FAZENDA PEANUTS (UPC 899030000636) and FAZENDA MIXED NUTS (UPC 899030000650), with” Best By” dates of 6/1/2008 to 5/1/2009.
The recalled product was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.
Although Nutsco is not aware of any complaints or reports of illness involving Nutsco products, Salmonella, is an organism that if present in food can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infection (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
This recall is being made with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.
Consumers who have purchased the FAZENDA or ALLNUTS products are urged to return them to the place of purchase. Consumers with any questions may contact the company M-F 9am-5pm at 856-966-6400 ext 107.
