Country Life Natural Foods Conducts Nationwide Recall Of Peanut-Containing Candies Because Of Possible Health Risk

Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, Michigan is recalling its candy products containing peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide through distributors, retail stores, mail order, and direct delivery.

The following products are being recalled:

M/F, S/F Carob Peanut Clusters, net wt. 10 pounds, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; UPC 1264715710. All lots with a lot code ending in a 7 or an 8 are under recall.

Milk Free NSA Carob Peanuts, net wt. 10 pounds, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; UPC 1264712210. All lots with a lot code ending in a 7 or an 8 are under recall.

Milk Free NSA Carob Peanuts, net wt. 12 ounces, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; item number 271208, no UPC. All lots bear a 3 to 5 digit lot code and all lots with a middle number of 7 or 8 are under recall.

Milk Free NSA Carob Fruit and Nut Clusters, net wt. 10 pounds, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; UPC 1264716010. All lots with a lot code ending in a 7 or an 8 are under recall.

Carob Bridge Mix, net wt. 5 pounds, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; item number 270542, no UPC. All lots bear a 3 to 5 digit lot code and all lots with a middle number of 7 or 8 are under recall.

Carob Bridge Mix, net wt. 12 ounces, Country Life Natural Foods, Pullman, MI; item number 271242, no UPC. All lots bear a 3 to 5 digit lot code and all lots with a middle number of 7 or 8 are under recall.

No illnesses related to our recalled products have been reported to date.

Country Life is recalling all of its peanut based candies due to the expanded recall by Peanut Corp of America that included peanut types purchased by Country Life.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to destroy the product immediately, or to return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.
