Promedis Announces Voluntary Nationwide U.S. Recall Of Nutrition Bars Because of Possible Health Risk

Promedis is voluntarily recalling seven lots of two roasted - peanut nutrition bars sold in the United States because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Promedis nutrition bars are sold through a U.S. distributor network, over the internet, and in medical clinics. Promedis products are not available in retail stores.

The two products affected by the recall are:

Promedis Roasted Peanut (Chocolate coated) Nutrition Bar, Product Code 4102, UPC 6464204102; Lots 935224, 949521, 1042757, 1160289 and 1179994

Promedis Roasted Peanut (Yogurt coated) Nutrition Bar, Product Code 4105, UPC 6464204105; Lots 1043882 and 1480893

To date, Promedis has not received any reports of illness related to these products.

The recall follows a recall of the peanut ingredient which was used to manufacture our products by the Peanut Corporation of America.

Promedis is urging any customers who have purchased or are in possession of the above bars to destroy them. The company has also urged distributors of the affected products to contact their customers immediately to advise them of the recall and the need to destroy the products. Consumers with questions may contact our Customer Service at 1 (866) 670-1900; M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST.
