Genisoy Food Company Announces Voluntary Recall of Genisoy Organic Apple Cinnamon Soy Protein Bars Due to Potential Health Risk

Genisoy Food Company is announcing a voluntary recall of their Genisoy Organic Apple Cinnamon Soy Protein Bars because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products contain peanut ingredients supplied by Peanut Corporation of America, which has just announced an expansion of a voluntary recall covering all peanut products made in their Blakely, GA plant since January 1, 2007. Peanut Corporation of America is currently the focus of an ongoing investigation concerning recent Salmonella outbreaks. Genisoy Food Company has not received any reports of illness connected to any of these products.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
