Chef Jay’s Food Products Announces Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Products Containing Peanut Butter Due to Possible Health Risk

Chef Jay's Food Products today announced a voluntary recall of some of its branded food products that contain peanut butter because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products contain peanut butter manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). As you may be aware, Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) voluntarily has recalled certain lots of its peanut butter and peanut butter paste because these products could be contaminated with Salmonella. Chef Jay's Food Products has identified (5) five items that contain the specified lots of peanut butter recalled by PCA. The following products, in all sizes and packages, with the "Best By" dates ranging from 06/Sept/09 thru 16/Jan/10 are included in the recall:

* Peanut Butter Tri-O-Plex Duo Bar (100 gram)
* Peanut Butter Tri-O-Plex Cookie (85 gram)
* Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Tri-O-Plex Cookie (85 gram)
* Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Tri-O-Plex Lite Bites Cookie (57 gram)
* Peanut Butter Tri-O-Plex Brownie (85 gram)

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. For more information on Salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Web site at or call 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).

These products were sold on the Internet, nutrition/health food stores and gyms throughout the United States and Europe. No other Chef Jay's products or flavors are included in this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy them immediately but may retain the package with the “Best By” dates ranging 06/Sept/09 thru 16/Jan/10 in order to receive replacement product. Consumers with questions regarding product replacement can find these details at, by emailing or calling (702) 450-7711.

"We are in full cooperation with the FDA during this recall process as we only want to provide the best, and safest product to our customers. Thankfully no illnesses have been reported in conjunction with any of our products," said Jay Littmann, CEO and President of Chef Jay's Food Products.
