GE and Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: GE and Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers

Units: About 198,000

Importer: GEA Products L.P., of Louisville, Ky., and CEM Global LLC (Professional Series) of China

Manufacturer: GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Ltd., of China

Hazard: A component in the dehumidifier's compressor can short circuit, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Midea and GE have received a total of 14 reports of incidents involving smoke and fumes emitting from the unit and eight reports of fires. In six of the reported fire incidents, property damage extended beyond the unit. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves 30-pint and 40-pint portable dehumidifiers manufactured between November 2006 and August 2007, and during April 2008. The dehumidifiers are white with a front-loading water bucket. "GE" or "Professional Series" and digital controls are located on top of the dehumidifier. Model and serial numbers are located on the back of the dehumidifiers. Model and serial numbers included in the recall are:

Consumers with recalled dehumidifiers will return their product to an authorized service center for a free repair. Consumers should not return the recalled dehumidifiers to the place of purchase.

Coil Nailers Recalled by Hitachi Koki Due to Serious Injury Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Coil Nailers

Units: About 50,000 in the United States and about 15,000 in Canada

Importer: Hitachi Koki U.S.A., Ltd., of Norcross, Ga.

Manufacturer: Hitachi Koki Co. Ltd., of Japan

Hazard: The nailers could have a faulty feeder that can allow nails to be ejected sideways, posing a serious injury hazard to the user or bystanders.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 37 reports of nails being ejected sideways, including 15 reports of injuries. The injuries were primarily in the eye region, including five reports of partial blindness.

Description: The coil nailers are used to project nails into drywall, wood or other materials. The model number is NV83A2 and can be found on the body of the product. Only those units manufactured between October 2002 and September 2005 are included in this recall. The manufacturing date can be identified by the serial number engraved at the end of the handle, the first digit representing the month (1 for January, 2 for February, 3 for March, 4 for April, 5 for May, 6 for June, 7 for July, 8 for August, 9 for September, O for October, N for November and D for December) and the second digit representing the year (2 for 2002, 3 for 2003, 4 for 2004 and 5 for 2005).

Sold at: Lowe's, Home Depot, other home improvement and building supply stores and online at Amazon.com nationwide from November 2002 through March 2006 for between $350 and $400.

Name of Product: Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers
Units: About 2,000
Importer: The Home Depot, of Atlanta, Ga.

Hazard: An internal component can fail causing the dehumidifier to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Home Depot has received 18 reports of the dehumidifiers catching fire. One consumer reported a burn injury to his forearm.

Description: The dehumidifiers are beige, have four wheels, and measure 21 inches high, 13 and 1/2 inches wide and 17 and 1/2 inches long. "Hampton Bay" is printed on the front panel. Model HB-50 is being recalled. The model number is printed on the back interior panel.

Sold at: The Home Depot from November 2000 through May 2007 for between $120 and $150.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dehumidifiers and contact Home Depot to receive a gift card for the full amount of the purchase price.

MTD Recalls Log Splitters Due to Amputation Hazard

Name of Product: Log Splitters

Units: About 26,000 in the United States and 2,100 in Canada

Manufacturer: MTD Products Inc, of Cleveland, Ohio

Hazard: The control handle of the log splitter could fail to automatically return to the neutral position as it should and could fail to stop the splitting wedge from moving forward, posing a risk of amputation to consumers' hands and fingers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The following log splitter brand names and model numbers are included in this recall. They were sold in red, black and yellow in 21, 25, 27 and 33 ton models. The model number is located on the frame near the engine. Log splitters manufactured from November 2008 through October 2009 are included in this recall. Only models with certain serial numbers are included in this recall.

Name of Product: LED Rocketship PalPODzzz(tm) Portable Nightlights

Units: About 26,000

Importer: OSRAM SYLVANIA Products Inc., of Danvers, Mass.

Hazard: The bottom plastic cover on the recharging base of the portable nightlight can break, exposing internal electrical components. This poses an electric shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of the bottom of the recharging base breaking and consumers touching internal electrical components that resulted in minor electric shocks.

Description: This recall involves LED Rocketship PalPODzzz(tm) portable nightlights with model number 72174. The product can also be used as an emergency light or a flashlight. The nightlight is shaped as a rocket ship and sits in a plastic recharging base that plugs into the wall. The model number and date codes "0808" or "0908" are printed on the label attached to the bottom cover of the recharging base.

Sold at: The Home Depot, Stop & Shop, and other retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Smarthome.com, and Sylvaniaonlinestore.com from October 2008 through November 2009 for between $15 and $20.

Units: About 3,000

Hazard: The table saw's arbor shaft can fail when used with a stacked blade set (commonly known as a "stacked dado set"), which is used to cut grooves. The stacked blade set can be ejected from the saw, posing a potential laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: One World Technologies has received three reports of shafts failing when used with a stacked dado set. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Ridgid 10-inch table saws, model R4511. The recalled saws have manufacturing date codes between CD0829 and CD0837. The model number and manufacturing date code are located on a metal plate on the rear of the cabinet. Products with an "Arbor Inspected" sticker directly above the plate or an orange square on the outside of the package are not included in the recall.

Hazard: The patio umbrella and its pole could tip over and strike consumers if the umbrella's collar or sleeve is not removed prior to closing the umbrella, posing a risk of impact injury to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Home Depot has received one report of a recalled patio umbrella tipping over and breaking. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The patio umbrellas are beige with a brown offset pole. They stand 11 feet tall. The base is a brown cross about 18 inches long.

Composite Decks Recalled by Louisiana-Pacific; Decks Can Deteriorate and Break, Posing Fall Hazard

Name of Product: Composite Decks

Units: About 48 million linear feet (decks vary in size)

Manufacturer: Louisiana-Pacific (LP) Corp., of Nashville, Tenn.

Hazard: The recalled decking can prematurely deteriorate and unexpectedly break. Consumers can fall through broken decking and suffer serious injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: LP has received 37 reports of composite decks breaking, resulting in 14 injuries, including a broken wrist, sprained ankle, minor lacerations and bruises.

Description: The recall includes outdoor deck board and railings sold under the brand names LP WeatherBest(r), ABTCo., and Veranda(r). They are composite products that look similar to natural wood and were sold in various colors including Tuscan Walnut/Chestnut, Driftwood Grey/Greystone, Pacific Cedar and Western Redwood. Veranda decking products were manufactured by multiple firms; only products manufactured by LP are included in this recall.

Sold at: The Home Depot (Veranda(r) brand) and building product dealers (LP WeatherBest(r) and ABTCo. brands) nationwide from January 2005 to August 2008 for between $1.50 and $2.25 per linear foot.

Remedy: Consumers with the recalled decking should immediately contact LP for a free inspection. If the decking is affected by premature deterioration, LP will arrange for a free replacement.

Hazard: The ceiling-mount assembly that supports the light fixture can fail, causing the fixture to unexpectedly fall and injure consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Progress Lighting has received three reports of incidents, including one report of a fixture falling from the ceiling. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves the following models of pendant-style ceiling-mounted light fixtures: P3601-09, P3602-09, P3603-09, P3603-09EXP, P3685-09, P365-09EXP, P4260-09, P4261-09, P4261-09EXP and P4262-09. The product number is located inside the canopy located flush with the ceiling. The fixtures have frosted white glass and a brushed aluminum finish.
