HP Expands Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries Due to Fire Hazard Consumers urged to recheck notebook models and batteries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Lithium-ion batteries used in HP and Compaq notebook computers

Units: About 162,600 additional batteries (54,000 and 70,000 batteries were previously recalled in May 2010 and May 2009, respectively)

Importer: Hewlett-Packard Company, of Palo Alto, Calif.

Hazard: The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat and rupture, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Since the May 2010 recall expansion, HP has received 40 additional reports of batteries that overheated and ruptured, resulting in seven burn injuries, one smoke inhalation injury, and 36 instances of property damage.

Description: The recalled lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are used with various model series of HP and Compaq notebook computers and include batteries that consumers were informed were not included in previous recalls. The chart below includes all notebook model numbers associated with batteries recalled to date. The computer model number is located at the top of the service label on the bottom of the notebook computer. Not all batteries matching the bar codes are being recalled.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the batteries from their notebook computer and contact HP to determine if their battery is included in this recall. Consumers who had previously checked their batteries and were informed they were not included in previous announcements are urged to check again. Consumers with recalled batteries will receive a free replacement battery. After removing the recalled battery from their notebook computer, consumers may use the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives.

McCormick & Company Recalls Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix Due To Unlabeled Milk Ingredient

McCormick & Company, Incorporated (NYSE:MKC) has announced a voluntary recall of Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix 8 OZ, with UPC Code 4123470132 and “BEST BY” date of OCT 08 12 H. A very limited number of packages of Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix with this date code contain an undeclared milk ingredient. People who have an allergy to milk run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled cartons of Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix were distributed to grocery stores in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin as well as internationally to the Cayman Islands, beginning on October 21, 2010. The affected product is packaged in 8 OZ cartons, and the date code is found printed in white ink on the bottom of the carton.

The recall was initiated after the discovery of a packaging error that resulted in a pouch of Cajun Style Fish Fry mix (which contains a milk ingredient) being packaged in the Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix carton. The ingredient statement on the package does not list milk as an ingredient.

The “BEST BY” date of OCT 08 12 H is the only date code affected by the recall. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date and no other McCormick products are involved in this recall.

All grocery outlets that sell Golden Dipt® Tempura Seafood Batter Mix are being notified to remove the affected product (UPC Code 4123470132 and date code BEST BY OCT 08 12 H) from their shelves immediately. Consumers do not need to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Instead, consumers are urged to contact McCormick’s Consumer Affairs team at 1-800-632-5847, weekdays from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM, or weekends from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (Eastern Time), for a replacement or full refund, as well as instructions on what to do with the product.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration. The Company is also issuing an alert through the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.

Hazard: The battery in the handheld video monitor can overheat and rupture, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Summer Infant has received five reports of ruptured batteries, including three incidents of minor property damage. No injuries were reported.

Description: The recall involves Summer Infant Slim and Secure handheld color video monitors with unmarked, MP and BK rechargeable batteries. The Video Monitor is sold in either silver and white, model #02800; or pink and white, model #02805. It has receiver and camera components. The receiver is approximately 4 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide with a 2.5" LCD screen with the "Summer" logo printed in white on the bottom front. The camera is silver and white. Both the video monitor and receiver components come with A/C adapters but only the receiver unit contains a rechargeable battery. The batteries are unmarked or marked with letters MP or BK on the lower right corner of the battery. Batteries that are marked TCL are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Exclusively at Babies R Us from September 2009 to May 2010 for about $200.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the video baby monitors with the recalled batteries and contact Summer Infant to receive a postage paid envelope to return the defective battery in exchange for a free replacement battery. Name of Product: FIXIT One Million Candlepower Rechargeable Spotlights

Hazard: The spotlight's charging adapter can overcharge the battery, forcing it to rupture and leak battery acid. This poses a chemical burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 13 reports of incidents involving minor skin chemical burns and battery acid burn holes in upholstery, clothing and carpeting.

Description: This recall involves the One Million Candlepower Spotlight, a rechargeable halogen light. The handheld spotlight is made of yellow plastic and has a black label that reads, "FIXIT Tools UP TO 1,000,000 CANDLE POWER" or "FIXIT Rechargeable Spotlight." The spotlight is sold with an AC power charger and a 12 volt car utility adapter.

Sold at: Walgreens, Rite Aid, Bealls, Tuesday Morning, Ace Hardware, Boscov's and Winn-Dixie stores nationwide from October 2003 through October 2009 for about $10.

Defibtech Announces a Voluntary Recall of DBP-2800 Battery Packs used in the Lifeline AED® and ReviveR AEDTM

Defibtech, LLC, is initiating a voluntary recall of 5,418 DBP-2800 Battery Packs used in the Lifeline AED® and ReviveR AEDTM (semi-automatic external defibrillators). This recall affects all DBP- 2800 Battery Packs shipped prior to June 4, 2007. In rare instances, when the AED is used with an affected battery pack, the AED may falsely detect an error condition during charging for a shock, then cancel charge and not provide therapy. Defibtech determined the need for this recall after learning of four reports from end users of this malfunction during patient use.

The company has identified recommendations for the end customer to follow until the battery pack has been corrected, which allows the battery pack to remain in service. A copy of these recommendations is being mailed to all affected customers. This customer notification, as well as instructions on determining whether a battery pack is affected, can also be found on the www.defibtech.com/batteryFA1 web page. Defibtech will provide customers with a free battery pack update card to address this issue for all affected battery packs. The correction to the battery pack will be able to be performed at the location where the battery pack is deployed using any DDU-100 series AED and a Defibtech supplied battery pack update card. The battery pack update is expected to be available within the next two weeks.

The DBP-2800 battery packs affected by this recall have been distributed globally to fire departments, EMS, health clubs, schools, and other organizations. The affected battery packs are used in AEDs which can be identified by the words "Lifeline AED®" and "ReviveR AEDTM" on the front of the device.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that this action is a Class I recall. Any adverse reactions experienced with the use of this product and/or quality problems should also be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Program by phone at 1-800- FDA-1088, or on the MedWatch website at www.fda.gov/medwatch2.

Description: This recall involves AMX 5000 series (MVP-5100, MVP-5150, MVP-5200i) wireless touch panels. The model number can be found on a label on the back of the unit. These touch panels can be used as remote controls for residential or commercial audio/visual systems. AMX 5000 series touch panels are available in black or white and include a 5.2" wide screen color LCD display. The touch panel's dimensions are 4 3/4" x 7 9/16" x 13/16".

Sold by: AMX dealers nationwide from May 2008 through October 2009 for between $2,400 and $4,200.

Description: The recall involves Coby DVD/CD/MP3 players with an 8 1/2 inch screen and product number TF-DVD- 8501. The rechargeable batteries sold with the DVD players have serial numbers that begin with "HY." The serial number can be found on a white sticker affixed to the battery. "Coby" is printed on the front cover and the product number is on the bottom of the unit.

Incidents/Injuries: Six incidents of overheating have been reported to the firm. Two consumers reported minor burns to the hand.

Description: The Wii 4-Dock Recharge Station includes a white docking station with four recharge stations and a four rechargeable battery pack. Brand names are on the front of the packaging and the model numbers, Psyclone (PSE6501) and React (RT530), can be found on the bottom side of the product.

Intermatic Recalls In-Wall Timers Due to Shock Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Intermatic Model ST01 and EI600 In-wall Electronic Timers

Units: About 240,000

Manufacturer: Intermatic Inc., of Spring Grove, Ill.

Hazard: When consumers trying to replace the timer's battery place a metal object through the battery tray slot, the object can reach internal metal contacts, posing a shock hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received twelve reports of consumers receiving a minor shock while changing the timer's battery.

Description: This recall involves the Intermatic in-wall electronic timers with model numbers ST01, ST01C, ST01AC, ST01AC70, ST01C70, ST01CL, EI600C, EI600LAC, EI600LAC8, EI600WC, and EI600WC8. This product is a lamp and appliance timer and typically takes the place of a standard wall switch. The timer is white, off-white, or almond and measures 2 1/2 inches high by 1 3/4 inches wide. Model numbers can be found on the packaging and on the instruction. In-Wall timers are included in this recall if (1) the brand name "Intermatic" is molded on the front of the timer cover door, (2) the timer has only four keypad buttons, and (3) there is no 3-digit date code (e.g. "04C") stamped on the inside of the timer cover door. Timers with a 3-digit date code (e.g. "04C") stamped on the inside of the timer cover door are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Retailers and electrical distributors nationwide from March 2007 through June 2009 for between $25 and $45.

Hazard: The vacuum's battery can expand and burst, posing a risk of injury to the user and bystanders.

Incidents/Injuries: Electrolux has received 34 reports of incidents in the U.S. involving damage to the vacuum and surrounding property. There have been two reports of minor injuries, including swollen hands and irritation to the eyes from contact with battery powder.

Description: This recall involves 2-in-1 cordless stick vacuums with a detachable hand vacuum and free-standing charger. Name of Product: Children's Two-Way Radios

Units: About 8,000

Manufacturer: Cobra Electronics, of Chicago, Ill.

Hazard: The rechargeable batteries in the radios can leak electrolyte, posing a chemical burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall involves two-way radios with the 300 mah "CEL" batteries. The walkie talkie style radios are made of pink plastic and come in purple packaging. Product number PR191-2VP is located on the front of the packaging and on the label inside the battery compartment. The batteries are standard AAA Nickle Metal Hydride battery cells with a black wrapper with the battery name 300 mah (CEL) with the date code (TF or RF) on the battery itself.

Sold by: Toys "R" Us Stores nationwide from August 2008 through September 2008 for about $30.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the two-way radios and contact the company for a free replacement and a 20% off coupon for a future purchase at www.cobra.com. If batteries have leaked on to the radio, do not touch the liquid, and contact the company for a free replacement product.

Gaming System Batteries and Recharging Station Recalled by LeapFrog Due to Burn Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Rechargeable Batteries and Recharging Station for Didj Custom Gaming System

Units: About 35,500

Manufacturer: LeapFrog Enterprises Inc., of Emeryville, Calif.

Hazard: The rechargeable batteries included with the Recharging Station can overheat if the gaming system is placed into the recharging base upside down, posing a burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: LeapFrog has received 12 reports of the rechargeable batteries overheating, including one report of a minor hand burn.

Description: The Recharging Station comes with two rechargeable batteries, an AC adapter, and a recharging base. The recharging base is white with a green indicator light on the bottom. The Recharging Station for Didj was sold as item number 30676, which is printed on the box and on the bottom of the recharging base.

Sold at: Department stores and toy stores nationwide and www.leapfrog.com, and other online retailers from July 2008 through October 2008 for about $35.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recharging base and the two rechargeable batteries and contact LeapFrog for a full refund. Consumers can continue using the AC adapter connected directly to the Didj handheld.game

Wireless Headset Batteries Recalled by GN Netcom Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: GN9120 Wireless Headsets

Units: About 525,000 (an additional 675,000 were sold outside the U.S.)

Manufacturer: GN Netcom Inc., of Nashua, New Hampshire

Manufacturer (battery): Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), of Hong Kong

Hazard: An internal short circuit can cause the lithium-ion polymer batteries to overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: GN Netcom has received 10 reports of incidents involving overheating, including three reports of open flames and property damage to furniture on which the headsets were resting. An additional 37 reports of overheating, three reports of open flames and one report of second degree burns, requiring medical attention, was received outside the U.S.

Description: This recall involves GN9120 wireless headsets with ATL lithium-ion polymer batteries. The headsets are intended primarily for professional use in offices and call centers. The product is sold with three components: a base station, headset and power adapter. "GN Netcom" or "GN9120" is printed on the base station and headset. The affected batteries have part number 603028 and have a white plastic enclosure. The batteries are labeled "Made by ATL (Amperex Technology Ltd.)" and "(ATL P/N 603028)." Batteries sold as a replacement part are labeled "GN9120 battery replacement kit."

Sold through: GN Netcom, authorized distributors and resellers nationwide from January 2005 through September 2008 for between $150 and $350 as part of the GN9120 headset and about $20 as a replacement part.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled headsets. Consumers should contact GN Netcom to receive a replacement battery.

Hobbico Inc. Recalls Batteries Used In Radio-Controlled Helicopters Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Batteries Used In Radio-Controlled Helicopter Kits

Units: About 11,000

Importer/Distributor: Hobbico Inc., of Champaign, Ill.

Hazard: The rechargeable battery can overheat and catch fire while charging, igniting nearby combustible materials. This poses a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Hobbico has received 28 reports of batteries overheating and/or melting, including 27 reports of flames and minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Electrifly lithium-polymer batteries (part #GPMP0401) sold individually or with the Heli-Max Axe CP-L radio-controlled helicopter kits. The kit includes a 23-inch long plastic helicopter, a battery, a radio transmitter, a balance charger, a car adapter, an AC wall adapter, decals that read "HMX", "AXE" and "Heli-Max" and training gear. "Electrifly" and "GPMP0401" are printed on the battery.

Sold at: Hobby Stores nationwide and online from November 2007 through March 2008 for about $35. The helicopter kits were sold for $200.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled batteries and contact Hobbico for instructions on returning their battery for a free replacement battery.

Polycom, Inc. Recalls Wireless Conference Phone Batteries Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: SoundStation2W Wireless Conference Phones with Lithium Ion Batteries

Units: About 5,800 units

Phone Distributor: Polycom, Inc., of Pleasanton, Calif.

Battery Pack Distributor: Gold Peak Industries Ltd., of Hong Kong

Hazard: The battery packs can overheat, posing a fire or burn hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Polycom has received one report of a battery pack overheating resulting in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled battery packs were supplied by Gold Peak Industries Ltd. and sold with Polycom's SoundStation2W wireless conference phones from December 1, 2007 until May 2, 2008, and separately as replacement battery packs during the same time period. The SoundStation2W part numbers and SKU numbers are printed on the underside of the telephone and include the following models:

The battery packs have a black or white plastic coating and a white label with the following title: "RECHARGEABLE Li-ion BATTERY." The recalled battery pack part numbers can be found on the bottom right hand corner of the white label on the battery pack. The date code can be found to the left of the part number printed on the white label of the battery.

Sold by: Authorized dealers nationwide through catalogs, online, telesales, office supply stores, the Polycom Web store, and Fry's Electronics retail locations from December 2007 through May 2, 2008 for between $700 and $900. Replacement battery packs were sold for between $50 and $90 through the same outlets.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the battery pack from their SoundStation2W wireless conference phone. Once the battery pack is removed, consumers can still use their conference phone by keeping the charger plugged into the unit. Consumers should not attempt to use battery packs other than those supplied by Polycom in the unit. Consumers should contact Polycom for a free replacement battery pack.
