The Coca-Cola Company Announces Voluntary Withdrawal of Themed Drinking Glass

(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Coca-Cola Company has announced a voluntary withdrawal of 22,000 sets of themed drinking glasses for quality reasons. One glass, which is designed to look like a can of Coca-Cola®, did not meet our quality expectations. While recent tests indicated some cadmium in the decoration on the outside of the glass, the low levels detected do not pose a safety hazard or health threat.

The Coca-Cola Company has an unwavering commitment to quality, and at times we may withdraw products from the market for quality reasons, even if there is no safety concern or legal requirement to do so.

We apologize to our consumers for the inconvenience.

Description: The glass is a 16-oz. decorated glass that looks like a can of Coca-Cola®, with a red body and the Coca-Cola® design. It was sold as a package of four glasses – each glass representing a can of Coca-Cola®, Diet Coke®, Coca-Cola Zero® or Sprite®.

Units: About 22,000 were distributed.

Distribution: The glasses were sold in retails stores and online, including at Coca-Cola retail stores, coca-colastore.com and other locations. The glasses were sent to distribution centers throughout the United States.

Market Dates: The glasses have been in market since March 2010.

Return Procedures:

For Glasses Bought at Retail Stores: Consumers can visit www.thecoca-colacompany.com/contactus/glass beginning Nov. 30 for instructions on how to return the glasses and secure a full refund.

For Glasses Bought at the Coca-Cola Online Store: Consumers who purchased the glasses from the www.coca-colastore.com website will automatically receive a credit to their account.

Beginning Nov. 30, retailers and consumers also can call Coca-Cola Consumer Affairs at 1-800-438-2653 to get instructions on how to return the glassware and request a refund.

No other Coca-Cola glassware is involved in the withdrawal.

Tween Brands Recalls Children's Metal Jewelry Due to High Levels of Cadmium

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Metal Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings

Units: About 137,000

Importer/Distributor: Tween Brands Inc., of New Albany, Ohio

Hazard: The children's metal jewelry contains high levels of cadmium. Cadmium is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: This recall involves 19 different styles of children's metal necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Styles and shapes of the jewelry include hearts, heart locks, butterflies, cupcakes, peace signs and crowns. Some jewelry contains the words "Best," "Friends" or "Forever" and/or "BFF." Only style numbers listed below are included in this recall. The style number is included on the jewelry's packaging.

Hazard: The designs on the glasses contain cadmium. Long term exposure to cadmium can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The "Shrek Forever After 3D" collectable drinking glass are 16 ounce glasses that came in four designs, Shrek, Fiona, Puss n' Boots, and Donkey.

Sold exclusively at: McDonald's restaurants nationwide from May 2010 into June 2010 for about $2.

Importer: Claire's Boutiques Inc., of Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Manufacturer: Dae Yeon Industries Corp., of China

Hazard: The heart lock charms attached to the bracelets contain high levels of cadmium. Cadmium is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The "Best Friends" three bracelet sets are silver-colored chains with metal pendants containing one of the words "Best," "Friends" or "Forever" and heart lock and key charms with different colored stones.

Sold exclusively at: Claire's stores nationwide from February 2009 through January 2010 for about $12.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled bracelets away from children and return the heart lock charms or the entire bracelets to any Claire's for a full refund or replacement product.

CPSC Issues Warning on Children's Winter and Holiday-Themed Charm Bracelets with High Levels of Cadmium

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers about the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using the products immediately.

Name of Product: Children's Metal Charm Bracelets

Units: Unknown

Importer: Buy-Rite Designs, of Freehold, N.J. (The firm is no longer in business.)

Hazard: The bracelets contain high levels of cadmium. Laboratory analysis determined that following a 24-hour incubation in simulated stomach acid, over 20,000 micrograms of cadmium were released from the snowman alone. Cadmium can be toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brand children's Christmas and winter-themed bracelets. The two styles involved in this notice are the Bumble Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The bracelets were sold with winter and Christmas-themed charms including a snowman, Christmas tree, candy cane and snowflake.

Sold at: Discount and dollar-type stores nationwide between 2006 and March 2009 for about $1.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this recalled jewelry away from children and dispose of the jewelry.
