C. H. Guenther & Son, Inc. Announces Voluntary Nationwide Recall of several products that contain pepper due to Possible Health Risk

C. H. Guenther & Son, Inc. today announced a voluntary recall of products containing a pepper ingredient that may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The products are part of the Sunbird Seasonings, Williams Wings Seasonings and Williams Gumbo Soup lines.

The recalled products contain black pepper distributed by Mincing Overseas Spice Company. The pepper has been recalled by Mincing because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

McCormick Recall Due to Possible Health Risk from HVP Ingredient Expands to Include Additional "Best By" Dates

McCormick & Company, Incorporated (NYSE:MKC) is expanding a March 5, 2010 recall to include additional "Best By" dates of products manufactured with HVP (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) supplied by Basic Food Flavors of Las Vegas, Nevada, because the ingredient has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

"Consumption of products containing Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms) endocarditis and arthritis."

To date, no illnesses have been associated with these McCormick products. For updated information, go to the CDC and FDA websites.

Kroger Recalls Two Onion Soup & Dip Mixes Due to Possible Health Risk

The Kroger Co. said today (February 27) it is recalling Kroger Onion Soup & Dip Mix and Kroger Beefy Onion Soup & Dip Mix sold in some of its retail stores because the Company has been made aware by a supplier that an ingredient in the product may have been contaminated with Salmonella.

Stores under the following names are included in this recall: Kroger, Dillons, Fry's, King Soopers, City Market, Smith's, Food 4 Less, Jay C, Scott's, Owen's, Baker's, Gerbes, Hilander and Pay Less.

Stores the company operates under the following names are not included in this recall:

Ralphs, Fred Meyer, QFC and Foods Co.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the Kroger products.

Kroger is recalling the following items:

* Kroger Onion Soup & Dip Mix sold in 2-ounce packages with sell-by dates from JAN 06 11 through FEB 17 11 under the following UPC code: 0001111073293
* Kroger Beefy Onion Soup & Dip Mix sold in 2.2-ounce packages with sell-by dates from DEC 28 10 through FEB 23 11 under the following UPC code: 0001111073929

The recalled items were sold in Kroger stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia; Dillons and Gerbes stores in Kansas and Missouri; Fry's stores in Arizona; King Soopers and City Market stores in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming; Smith's stores in Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming; Baker's stores in Nebraska; and Food 4 Less, Hilander, Jay C, Owen's, Pay Less and Scott's stores in Illinois and Indiana.

Homemade Gourmet Voluntarily Recalls "Tortilla Soup Mix" Because of Possible Health Risk

Homemade Gourmet of Canton, Texas is voluntarily recalling approximately 320 packages of 1.96 oz Tortilla Soup Mix, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

"Tortilla Soup Mix" is distributed nationwide via mail order delivery and through independent consultant sales. The recalled lots are S1004812411 and S1004912111, which were sold 2/17/2010 through 3/1/2010. All known purchasers of the 320 packages have been contacted and told to destroy them. A full refund has been offered to every customer and consultant.

"Tortilla Soup Mix" is packaged in clear plastic packages with red and beige labeling. The product was sold individually in a 1.96 oz (55.6 g) pouch, and as part of two kits including the "Let’s Make Dinner Collection (stock #40.1032) or the "$800 pre-select" order for consultants (stock #37.0320).

To date, no known illnesses have been associated with this product.

The "Tortilla Soup Mix" was made using Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., Las Vegas, Nevada. The HVP had tested positive for Salmonella at its original manufacturing plant Basic Food Flavors, Inc.

This product should be destroyed immediately. Consumers with questions should contact Homemade Gourmet Customer Service Department at 1-888-477-2848 (Monday – Friday 8-5 C.S.T.) for replacement, substitution or refund.

The C. F. Sauer Company Recalls Gravy and Sauce Mixes Because of Possible Health Risk

The C. F. Sauer Company, of Richmond, VA is taking the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling brown gravy, brown gravy with mushrooms, brown gravy with onions, turkey gravy, pork gravy, country sausage gravy, country style gravy, Alfredo sauce mix, Cajun gumbo mix, and Hollandaise sauce mix produced under the Sauer’s, Gold Medal, and Piggly Wiggly labels because they contain instant non-fat dry milk manufactured by the Plainview Milk Products Cooperative. Plainview has recently commenced a recall of instant non-fat dry milk and other ingredients that have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more serious illnesses such as arterial infections (i. e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

No illnesses have been associated with this recall.

The products affected by this voluntary recall include foil packets and plastic jars in cartons of 6 to 24 individual containers distributed to retail stores in AL, GA, NC, SC, MS, MI, OH, TN, VA, WV, KY, FL, and PA.

Only the codes listed below are affected by this recall notice. Customers should look on the foil packet for embossed codes along the edge of the package, and on the jars for printed codes located on the jar immediately below the bottom of the cap.
