Cibo Naturals of Seattle, Washington, is recalling 20,700 containers of 6 oz Classic Basil Pesto, because it may contain undeclared pine nuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pine nuts (tree nuts) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Cibo Naturals 6oz Classic Basil Pesto was distributed throughout the United States through retail grocery stores.
The product is sold in 6oz clear plastic containers, under the label Cibo Naturals Classic Basil Pesto. The lot numbers that may contain undeclared pine nuts are 34007344, 34007345, and 34007346. This lot number information is printed in black ink on the bottom of the container.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing pine nuts was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of pine nuts. Subsequent investigation indicated the problem resulted from a process deviation in our mixing procedures.
Consumers who have purchased Cibo Naturals Classic Basil Pesto are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-588-7782.
