Voluntary Prodcut Recall: Chef Pierre® Gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie, Day Code 9159 Only

Chef Pierre® is voluntarily recalling a partial production run of the following foodservice product as a precautionary measure as the product may contain milk, an undeclared allergen, posing a potential serious and life-threatening health risk to milk-allergic individuals. This recall affects 4,380 cases of Chef Pierre Gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie labeled product that actually contained chocolate meringue pie.

The item included in the voluntary recall is part of a partial production run only for Chef Pierre Lemon Meringue Pie with the UPC CODE 3210009293 AND a code of 9159 printed on the top of the pie label directly under the Chef Pierre logo.

No other Chef Pierre branded products are affected by this voluntary recall. Only packages labeled as Chef Pierre Lemon Meringue Pie with the UPC CODE 3210009293 AND a code of 9159 printed on the top of the pie label directly under the Chef Pierre logo is part of this recall.

This product was sold and distributed nationally to foodservice companies and sold to consumers through foodservice retail outlets and other foodservice establishments.

Chef Pierre has received no reports of illnesses or allergic reactions.

This recall is being conducted in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Consumers may return affected product to the store or operator where it was purchased for a full refund. Consumers or customers who may have questions or concerns should call the special Chef Pierre pie recall toll-free consumer line at 1.888.891.6100. The consumer line is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Certain Frigidaire and Kenmore Elite Smoothtop Electric Ranges

Units: About 200,000

Manufacturer: Frigidaire, a division of Electrolux Home Products Inc., of Augusta, Ga.

Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can: 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Frigidaire has received 126 reports of incidents, including four reports of minor burns and two reports of minor property damage.

Description: This recall involves Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional and Kenmore Elite smoothtop electric ranges with rotary knobs and digital displays. The following model and serial numbers are included in the recall:

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled ranges immediately and contact Frigidaire or Sears to schedule a free repair.

Strangulation Deaths of Children Prompt Recall to Repair of Roll-Up Blinds and Roman Shades by Lewis Hyman Inc.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: ¼" Oval Roll-up Blinds and Woolrich Roman Shades

Units: About 4.2 million roll-up blinds and 600,000 Roman shades

Importer: Lewis Hyman Inc., of Carson, Calif.

Hazard: Roll-up Blinds: Strangulations can occur if the lifting loops slide off the side of the blind and a child's neck becomes entangled on the free-standing loop or if a child places his/her neck between the lifting loop and the roll-up blind material.

Roman Shades: Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck.

Incidents/Injuries: In November 2007, a 1-year-old boy from Norridgewock, Maine became entangled and strangled in the lift cord loop of a roll-up blind that had fallen into his portable crib. In October 2008, a 13-month-old boy from Conway, Ark. was found with his head between the exposed inner cord and the cloth on the backside of a Roman shade. The cord was not looped around the boy's neck but rather ran from ear to ear and strangled the child.

Description: This recall involves roll-up blinds without release clips (see picture below) and all Woolrich Roman shades. The roll-up blinds have plastic oval-shaped slats that measure about ¼ inch tall. The blinds measure either 72" or 96" long. The bottom rail has a WARNING label advising that "Young children can become entangled and strangle in cord or bead loops" and a label that reads "Lewis Hyman, Inc." and the year of manufacture. Roll-up blinds that have release clips right below the head rail on the backside of the blind are not included in this recall.

The Woolrich Roman shades come in twill fabric and micro-suede fabric and measure 72" long. The head rail has two labels that read "Lewis Hyman, Inc., www.lewishymaninc.com" and "LHI, 005301, Made in China" respectively.

Sold at: The Roman shades were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com from March 2006 through December 2008 for between $25 and $43. The roll-up blinds were sold at retail stores nationwide from January 1999 through December 2003 for between $6 and $20.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately check the backside of the roll-up blinds to determine if they have release clips. If the roll-up blind does not have release clips, stop using it immediately and contact Lewis Hyman for a free repair kit.

Maytag Expands Recall of Refrigerators Due to Fire Hazard

/PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product.

Name of Product: Maytag(R), Magic Chef(R), Performa by Maytag(R) and Crosley(R) brand refrigerators

Units: About 46,000 (1.6 million units were previously recalled in March 2009)

Manufacturer: Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa

Hazard: An electrical failure in the relay, the component that turns on the refrigerator's compressor, can cause overheating and pose a serious fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Maytag has received 23 additional reports of refrigerator relay ignition, including 4 reports of property damage ranging from smoke damage to extensive kitchen damage.

Description: The recall includes certain Maytag(R), Magic Chef(R), Performa by Maytag(R) and Crosley(R) brand side-by-side and top freezer refrigerators. The affected refrigerators were manufactured in black, bisque, white and stainless steel. They have model and serial numbers printed on a label located on the top middle or left upper side of the refrigerator liner and have the following model and serial number combinations:

Kroger Recalls Super Kids Enriched White Sandwich Bread Due to Undeclared Milk in the Product

The Kroger Co. said today it is recalling Kroger brand Super Kids Enriched White Sandwich Bread sold in 13 states because it may contain milk not listed on the label. Customers should return the product to stores for a refund or replacement.

People who are allergic to milk could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. For consumers who are not allergic to milk, there is no safety issue with the product.

Kroger stores in the following states are included in this recall: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Kroger stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas are not included in the recall.

The recall also includes Jay C Food stores in Indiana and Food 4 Less stores in Illinois and Indiana. Other stores Kroger operates under different banner names are not included in this recall.

Nutracoastal Trading LLC Expands Its voluntary nationwide recall of Steam Dietary supplement

Nutracoastal Trading LLC announced today that it is expanding its July 28th, 2009 voluntary nationwide recall of the company's dietary supplement product sold under the following name: STEAM.

The Company has found by lab analysis that Lot 90260 contains Tadalafil, an active ingredient of an FDA-approved drug for erectile dysfunction (ED), making STEAM DIETARY SUPPLEMENT an unapproved drug. The active drug ingredient is not listed on the product label. The undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. Additionally, the product may cause side effects, such as headaches and flushing.

The recalled product listed below was distributed in white plastic bottles to retail stores nationwide.
