Foria International Recalls Women's Peacoats Due to Violation of Federal Flammability Standard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Women's Peacoats

Units: About 800

Importer: Foria International Inc., of City of Industry, Calif.

Hazard: The peacoats fail to meet the federal flammability standard for wearing apparel and pose a risk of burn injury.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves women's peacoats that are double-breasted and have long sleeves. They are made from 100 percent cotton fleece in large blue and white plaid print. "Authentic" is printed on the label at the center back neckline of the garments.

Sold at: Bass Pro Shops nationwide from October 2009 through January 2010 for about $60.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled coats immediately and return them to Foria International for a full refund of retail price including shipping. Foria International address is 18689 Arenth Avenue, City of Industry, CA 91748.

Blair Expands Recall To All Women's Chenille Apparel Due to Burn Hazard; Additional Reported Deaths Prompt Re-Announcement of Robe Recall; 9 Reported Deaths in Total; Consumers Urged to Stop Use of Flammable Wearing Apparel


The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Blair LLC, of Warren, Pa., are expanding Blair's voluntary recall of women's full length chenille robes to include additional chenille robes and three other chenille products all manufactured by A-One Textile & Towel. CPSC and Blair also are re-announcing the earlier recall of women's robes.

In April 2009, Blair recalled 162,000 chenille robes after it learned of three robes catching on fire, including one report of second degree burns. Blair then received several reports of deaths allegedly due to robes catching fire. This prompted a second news release in June 2009 to again alert consumers to the burn hazard for the chenille robes. After this re-announcement, Blair received four additional reports of deaths allegedly due to the robes catching fire. Three of these victims were cooking and a fourth was tending a pellet stove; three of the four victims were in their 80s and one was in her 70s. All nine reported deaths occurred prior to the April 2009 announcement of the recall.

Blair has received one report involving one of the additional garments described below catching fire; no injuries have been reported related to these garments. Blair decided to expand the recall to include all women's chenille wearing apparel manufactured by A-One Textile & Towel.

Manufacturer: CA-One Textile & Towel, of Karachi, Pakistan. A-One Textile & Towel manufactured all of the products recalled in April 2009. Blair is expanding its recall to all women's chenille wearing apparel manufactured by A-One.

Retailer: Blair LLC, of Warren, Pa.

Hazard: Some of these products fail to meet the federal flammability standard and present a risk of serious burns to consumers if the garments are exposed to an open flame.

Incidents/Injuries: Since announcing the recall in April 2009, Blair has received nine reports of deaths allegedly due to the originally recalled robes catching fire. Blair has received one report on one of the additional garments catching fire; no injuries have been reported.

Full Length Women's Chenille Robe. The item number is identified on a label in the garment's neckline. One-piece garment made of plush sculpted chenille. The robe has a shaped stand collar, horizontal chenille front and back yolks and cuffs, a full-button front with seven matching button closures, long sleeves with self cuffs, a straight bottom with self hem, and two side seam pockets. "100% Cotton, RN 81700, Made in Pakistan" is on the label. Women's Chenille Lounge Jacket. The item number is identified on a label in the garment's neckline. One-piece garment made of plush sculpted chenille. The jacket has a shaped stand collar, and horizontal chenille front and back yolks and cuffs, a full-button front with five matching button closures, long sleeves with self cuffs, a straight bottom with self hem, and two side seam pockets. "100% Cotton, RN81700, Made In Pakistan" is on the label. Item numbers/colors are: 4526401 Lavender, 4526402 Aqua, 4526403 Light pink

Women's Chenille Top. The item number is identified on a label in the garment's neckline. One-piece, pullover garment made of plush sculpted chenille. The top has a rounded neckline, long sleeves, a straight bottom with side vents, and ribbed binding at the neckline and cuffs. "100% Cotton, RN81700, Made In Pakistan" is on the label. Six Reported Deaths Prompt Urgent Re-announcement of Blair Recall of Women's Chenille Robes

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Blair LLC, of Warren, Pa., are re-announcing the voluntary recall by Blair of 162,000 women's full length Chenille Robes. Since the recall was originally announced in April 2009, Blair has received reports of six deaths due to the robes catching on fire. Five of the six victims were female, and all five were cooking at the time of the incidents. Three of the victims were in their 80s.

CPSC and Blair announced the recall for the robes after Blair learned of three robes catching on fire, including one report of second-degree burns. Blair was subsequently made aware of the fatalities after the recall was announced and after Blair had sent letters of the recall to consumers who purchased the robes.

The Women's Chenille Robes have the following item numbers: 3093111, 3093112, 3093113, 3093114, 3093115, and 3093116. The item number is identified on a label in the garment's neckline. The robe is a one-piece garment made of plush sculpted chenille, a shaped stand collar, and horizontal chenille front and back yolks and cuffs. The robe has a full-button front with seven matching button closures, long sleeves with self cuffs, a straight bottom with self hem, and two sideseam pockets. The robe's sewn in label states: "100% Cotton, RN 81700, Made in Pakistan".

The robes were sold in Blair catalogs and Web site, and Blair stores in Warren, Pa., Grove City, Pa., and Wilmington, Del., from January 2003 through March 2009 from about $20 to $40.
