(BUSINESS WIRE)--Publix Super Markets is issuing a voluntary recall for Publix Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie, because it was mislabeled and may contain undeclared pecans. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of allergic reaction if they consume this product. Product was prepared at Publix stores for retail sale between November and December 2009. The recalled product has a UPC number of: 002-95118-20399-7 and is packaged in a 30 ounce plastic container. The name of the product describes the product as “Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie.” The ingredient statement on the label does not declare pecan, which is an ingredient in the pie. The mislabeled pies were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
“As part of our commitment to food safety and in cooperation with the FDA, we are issuing this voluntarily recall,” said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations. “Since customers may still have these pies in their homes, we wanted to take every precaution to make them aware of the pecan as an ingredient. To date, there have been no reported cases of illness. Consumers who have purchased the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund. Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Pecans in Mislabeled Fresh & Easy Pumpkin Cheesecake Pies
Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is voluntarily recalling some fresh&easy™ "Pumpkin Cheesecake Pies" (40 oz.) because they may contain undeclared pecans. Individuals who have allergies to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled product was sold in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a limited number of the fresh&easy™ "Pumpkin Cheesecake Pies" (UPC 5051379033712) were labeled with plain fresh&easy™ "Pumpkin Pie" labels (UPC 5051379008628), which do not declare the presence of pecans. The mislabeled fresh&easy™ Pumpkin Cheesecake pies all carry an "Enjoy by" date of NOV 21 and have been removed from all Fresh & Easy stores.
The fresh&easy™ "Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie" has a crumb topping containing pecans. fresh&easy™ "Pumpkin Cheesecake Pies" which are accurately labeled are not affected by the recall. (see picture of incorrectly labeled product attached)
Customers may return the unused product, empty product containers or present the receipt as proof of purchase of the recalled product to any Fresh & Easy store for a full refund.
