Name of Product: Mecca Children's Hooded Jackets with Drawstrings
Units: About 11,500
Distributor: 5 Star Apparel LLC, of New York, N.Y.
Hazard: The jackets have drawstrings through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to young children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) (which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Children's Hooded Jackets Sold Exclusively at Burlington Coat Factory Recalled by Franshaw Due to Strangulation Hazard

Name of Product: Children's Hooded Jackets
Units: About 2,400
Importer: Franshaw Inc., of New York, N.Y.
Hazard: The jackets have drawstrings through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to young children. In February 1996 CPSC, issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled in the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: This recall involves Blue Heart and Just a Girl brand children's sweatshirts. The Blue Heart sweatshirts are olive and pink, and have style number 48052. The Just a Girl sweatshirts were sold in light blue, and have style number 48052. RN 87888 is printed in the center of the back neck. The sweatshirts were sold in sizes 4 to 6X.
Sold exclusively at: Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide from September 2006 through September 2009 for about $10.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the jackets to eliminate the hazard or return the garment to Burlington Coat Factory or to Franshaw Inc. for a full refund.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Hooded jackets
Units: About 4,400
Distributor: EMH Associates Inc., of New York, N.Y.
Hazard: The jackets have a drawstring around the waist which can pose an entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The recalled children's jackets were sold in sizes 7/8 through 16 and have RN number 115036 and style numbers WD36687 or WD36689, which is located on the care label of all garments. The jackets come in turquoise and brown plaid, pink, and orange and brown plaid.
Sold at: Meijers Stores nationwide in July 2008 for about $15.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard, or return the garment to either the place of purchase or to EMH Associates Inc. for a full refund.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Harajuku Lovers Hooded Jackets
Units: 1,200
Distributor: Jerry Leigh of California Inc., of Van Nuys, Calif.
Hazard: The jackets have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Description: This recall involves the Harajuku Lovers Hooded Jackets with the RSL Hoodie & Lovers Leopard styles. The RSL Hoodie style has numerous pictures of girls riding motor scooters and the words "ready steady love" printed on it. The Lovers Leopard style has a leopard design in grey and black."Harajuku Lovers" is printed on a tag sawn next to the care label.
Sold at: Nordstrom's, Macy's, and other retailers nationwide from August 2008 through January 2009 for about $75.

Hazard: The jackets have a drawstring through hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description and Models: This recall involves the Foursquare hooded jackets with drawstrings in boys and girls sizes XS, S, M, L, and XL. The jackets come in various colors and patterns and have a logo showing four adjacent, vertically offset squares on the sleeve, waist, breast and/or back of the jacket, depending on the specific model.
Sold at: Snowboard, ski and sportswear stores nationwide from June 2008 through November 2008 for about $125.
Manufactured in: Taiwan

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Young Colors Children's Hooded Jackets
Units: About 1,500
Importer: R&D International Inc., of Salida, Colo.
Hazard: The jackets have drawstrings through the hood and at the waist. Children can get entangled in the drawstrings that can catch on playground equipment, fences or tree branches. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstring in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts. From 1985 through June 2008, CPSC received reports of 27 deaths and 70 non-fatal incidents involving the entanglement of children's clothing drawstrings.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: The cotton knit and woven hooded jackets have a drawstring through the hood and waist. They were sold in sizes 12 months through size 10 in a variety of solid colors and prints. "Young Colors" is sewn into the jacket tag located at the neck.
Sold at: Specialty children's stores nationwide from April 2004 through September 2007 for about $45.
Manufactured in: Peru and Indonesia
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the jacket to eliminate the safety hazard.
