Whole Foods Market Recalls Bulk Peanut Products Due To Possible Health Risk

Whole Foods Market is recalling all code dates of the following bulk items because they may contain peanuts that have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella:

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

“Pre-packed” denotes pre-packaged peanuts (clear clamshell containers from Bulk packing facility)

This action was taken as a result of the recently expanded recall by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) to include all peanut ingredients produced in their Blakely, Georgia facility, in turn affecting Whole Foods Market supplier for bulk peanuts. None of the recalled Whole Foods Market products have been directly linked to the salmonella outbreak, and there have been no illnesses reported.

The recalled products were sold in Whole Foods Market stores located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Toronto, ON.
Customers are encouraged to return any of these products to Whole Foods Market or Harry’s Farmers Market for a full refund.

Thrift Products Recalls Thrifty Nut Brand Honey Roasted and Dry Roasted Peanuts Sold in Michigan And Indiana Because of Possible Risk To Health

Thrift Products Co. is conducting a voluntary recall of all sizes of its Honey Roasted and Dry Roasted peanuts because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

All packages of the following products are included in the recall:

Thrifty Nut brand HONEY ROAST PEANUTS, GRANULATED, UPC 7934898868 with a Best if Used by date of 7/09 or earlier.

Thrifty Nut brand SEASONED DRY ROAST PEANUTS, 9/5 oz., UPC 7934830903 with a Best if Used by date of 11/09 or earlier.

Thrifty Nut brand HONEY ROASTED PEANUTS, 9/5 oz., UPC 7934830941 with a Best if Used by date of 7/09 or earlier.

Thrifty Nut brand HONEY ROASTED PEANUTS, 6/8 oz., UPC 7934810941 with a Best if Used by date of 7/09 or earlier.

Thrift Products distributes these products in Michigan and Northern Indiana.

Thrift Products is taking this action because they were made from peanuts processed by PCA (Peanut Corporation of America) in its Blakely, Georgia facility, and PCA has recalled all peanuts processed in that plant.

Thrift Products is not aware of any complaints of illness involving our products to date.

Georgia Peanut Commission Recalls 11 oz. and 4 lb. Cans of Skinless and Honey Roasted Peanut Product Because of Possible Health Risk

The Georgia Peanut Commission of Tifton, Ga. is recalling 11 oz. and 4 lb. cans of skinless and honey roasted peanut product, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditic and arthritis.

The canned peanut product was distributed from the Georgia Peanut Commission Gift Shop in Tifton, Ga. The product was distributed to the following states: AL, AR, CA, FL, GA, IL, KY, MA, MD, MI, MO, NE, NH, NY, PA, SC, TN, TX, WI, WV and Washington, DC. The product includes the words "Packed by Peanut Corporation of America, Blakely, GA 31723." The product is distributed in a metal vacuum packed sealed can labeled Georgia Peanuts. The products include:

* 11 oz. Georgia Peanuts Skinless Roasted
* 11 oz. Georgia Peanuts Honey Roasted
* 4 lb. Georgia Peanuts Skinless Roasted
* 4 lb. Georgia Peanuts Honey Roasted

No illnesses have been reported to date. The Georgia Peanut Commission initiated the voluntary recall in response to an expanded recall by PCA. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is currently investigating an alleged salmonella contamination in peanut butter and peanut paste produced at PCA's Blakely, Ga. plant. The expanded recall now includes all peanuts and peanut-related products produced at the PCA plant from January 2007 to present. The Company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continues their investigation as to what caused the problem.

As a result of the expansion of Peanut Corporation of America’s (PCA) recall to include all peanuts and peanut ingredients processed in their Blakely, Georgia facility since January 1, 2007 due to the possibility to be contaminated with Salmonella, Austinuts Wholesale, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for the following products:

* Honey Roasted Peanuts
o UPC 798612-19004, UPC 798612-19008 and UPC 798612-19025
o All lot numbers beginning with the letter “P” and ending with the code “19000PB”
o Or any product labeled “Honey Roasted Peanuts”
* Sweet & Spicy Snack Mix
o UPC 798612-24208
o All lot numbers beginning with the letter “P” and ending with the code “24200PB”

No other Austinuts’ products are part of this recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection to the above products. This voluntary recall is being issued out of an abundance of caution due to possible Salmonella contaminated ingredients from PCA’s Blakely, Georgia facility.
